Inspiration for Kayak Coast

I was with a group of kayakers just out from Dartmouth. You can’t really see from my photographs but the sun was shinning and playing on the water. The sea was very calm, the surface was only broken by towering rock formations and the occasional seal swimming between the kayaks. It was idyllic.

When it came to my painting I wanted to create something more tangible than just a visual image. I wanted my painting to make me feel like I was there again, to be low in the water, to smell the sea, close to the rocks so that I could almost touch them, the light reflecting back off the water slightly stinging my eyes.
